How Serve fits into Uber Eats
Serve Robotics has a commercial agreement with Uber to deploy its robots as an alternative delivery method within Uber Eats. When you place an order in a Los Angeles zone where Serve operates, the Uber Eats system may route your delivery to a robot based on distance, availability, and route suitability. As a customer, you receive a notification and can track the robot on the map.
The robot carries your order in an insulated compartment and navigates via the sidewalk to your delivery location. You receive a code or app prompt to unlock the compartment when it arrives. The process is designed to be identical to a human courier delivery from the customer perspective.
Gen 3: what changed
The Serve Gen 3 platform was built for commercial scale deployment. It uses an NVIDIA-powered AI stack, improved sensor redundancy, and is designed for higher daily delivery volumes than earlier prototypes. The design is taller and more weather-resistant than Starship's low-profile pod design.
Serve went public in 2024 (Nasdaq: SERV), which provides quarterly reporting on its operational metrics. The company's disclosed goal is large-scale deployment of thousands of units across US cities via partnership agreements.
